This document highlights the importance of the role of teachers in educational development, emphasizing the positive evolution of the teaching profession in Colombia over time. Although significant progress has been made in the academic training of teachers, with a considerable number holding specializations, master’s degrees, and even doctorates, challenges persist in terms of equity and access to quality education. There is evident inequality between regions, with some having highly qualified teachers while others lack even undergraduate degree-holding teachers. Furthermore, a gap in teachers’ technological training is highlighted, which is crucial in the current context of virtual education, stressing the need to address these challenges to improve the quality and equity of education in the country.
